Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions about what we do, check our full list of FAQs below.

What does IMI stand for? Where did it come from?

Integrated Mindfulness Institute. Monte and I brainstormed for a few weeks on what we want to call our school. We finally settled on IMI because we integrate many mindfulness modalities. These modalities work together to create a highly unique and highly effective mental wellness protocol.

What does mindfulness mean?

Mindfulness is a psychological state of being the discerning witness to our own thoughts, and the world around us. It is a state of awakeness, awareness, and peace.

How can we work together?

We have regular classes on Insight Timer. These classes are free and you can donate as well. If you would like to work 1:1 with either of us, please click on schedule your free discovery call. We have so much knowledge and can call from our inner library to help guide you into your personal power.

What’s your end goal after a client works with IMI?

Our goal for you is that you may be empowered with skills and personal practices to shift your inner dialogue, mindset, and improve your quality of life. We hope to give you the knowledge to emotionally regulate yourself with these skills and be more liberated from past patterns that held you back. We want you to have the confidence to be your own leader and be a sovereign individual.

We will help you to optimally cultivate your mind garden.  We will help you to weed out unproductive patterns of thought while planting productive habits into your mind.

Have you seen the change in others?

Over the years, we have seen many people progress from their past patterns. We have helped people with addiction, anxiety, and depression to be empowered and improve their mental health.

In what aspects does IMI focus on one’s lifestyle?

  • Physical – We work with you on mindful movement, posture, breath. We will help you to create a practice to regularly work with the body and breath and develop the habit to use these skills throughout your day.

  • Mental – The mind is a wide arena. We work with emotional regulation and skills help you to become the witness and choose thoughts differently. We work with the mind garden and how to weed out old unproductive patterns and cultivate new habits of thought and action.

  • Dietary – Yoga is a vast subject which includes how to eat to fuel your body. I, Jai, work on a diet with people whose goal is to lose weight or to be healthier in their body. Monte works specifically with the mental diet and becoming the director of your mind by choosing what you mentally ingest wisely.

What kind of yoga do you teach?

I am trained in hatha yoga, kundalini yoga, and deeply studied in bhakti yoga. Yoga is the bringing together of mind, body, and spirit. The movement portion of yoga is to prepare the body for meditation and mindful living. Many people think of yoga as a movement practice. This is a part of it, but there is a vast ocean of wisdom in yogic living and philosophy.

I don’t live nearby, how do I know that I will get the same experience virtually?

Each person who works with us has to bring their own willingness to learn, practice, and grow. Energy doesn’t know the limitations of time and space. So, given the proper intention, we can feel as if we are in the same room together. When working with us virtually, we have the ability to record our sessions for you to look back on and to grow more from.

What other platforms can I find you on?

  • Social Media – If you scroll to the bottom of any page on this website you will see little icons. Each of these are linked to our social media sites. We are on FB, Instagram, Spotify, Apple podcasts, and Insight Timer.

  • Apps – Insight Timer is a wonderful pathway to get to participate with us and meet other leaders/teachers in the mindful living field.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

Coaching and counseling are very much the same. I, Jai, am a certified coach and have training and certifications in yoga, mindfulness, tai chi, qi gong, reiki, shamanic practices, breath work, astrology, and energy healing. Monte is a licensed professional counselor with his masters in psychology. He brings in mindfulness based cognitive therapy in his sessions as well as his vast experience of working with people.

How long do coaching and counseling sessions last?

A session with Jai is generally 90 minutes and Monte is about 60 minutes. Virtual? We can work with you through zoom, and have the face-to-face feel or over the phone if that is more comfortable for you. If you are nearby we can meet in person but will have to charge more for travel.

What is the basic philosophy of your coaching & teaching?

We believe that we are all in this together.  If we can help you to optimize your mind garden this will benefit the world through helping you to unleash your destined potential.

Are our conversations confidential?

YES! We are professionals in our field and take ethics very seriously. Our meetings are confidential. The only exception is if you are really suffering with acute suicidal ideation and are on the brink of attempting, then we are obligated to call in authorities for help.

What are some typical reasons clients work with you?

People that we work with generally want to improve their quality of life, and are suffering with some degree of regular stress, anxiety and/or depression, which sometimes includes addiction as well.

What’s the IMI community like?

As a community, we honor each of us as being magical and mystical beings of power.

We realize that we are all in this together and as one of us energetically progresses it helps all of us because we are all energetically connected.

What makes IMI different from other mindfulness programs?

Each program is an essence of its creator. We are original, authentic, and genuine in our approach to healing so there is no other program like ours. We have woven together everything from tai chi, yoga, mindfulness based cognitive therapy, music, power breathing, meditation, and chanting.  Combined we have over 45 years of experience in using these skills to progress on our own paths of mental and physical health.

Do you only work with trauma?

We believe there is a pattern of trauma in every human. You don’t have to know what it is and we won’t focus on you figuring it out, but in the course of working with you, you may very well discover the patterns you wish to change are from a traumatic event or pattern in your early life or beyond.

How do you measure a client’s success?

When a client feels a higher quality of life, more in control of their anxiety or depression or an addiction, we feel like the client is succeeding with their new skills and tools to shift their life.

What’s my life’s purpose?

To evolve.

Well in my opinion all of us are here to reconnect with our soul and the soul of the universe. Then there is our destiny/purpose, passions that we wish to become or do for our culture. This can be deduced by looking at a client’s astrological birth chart or by simply reflecting a client’s deepest desires that will likely come up in our “goals” portion of conversing together. How do I manifest it? Manifesting is an art, but we can all do it. First, the thing or quality you wish to manifest needs to come from a pure place, so learning to discern ego from soul is important. Then, being in a place of acceptance and satisfaction with what is while dreaming of what you wish to create. Bringing energy into form can happen instantly for some people, but for most of us it takes time and intention to hold space for the energy to manifest into physical reality. There is a good portion of manifesting that is having faith that you have done the energetic creation and are now holding the tone and mindset for it to come into form.

How can I live a rewarding, joyful and peaceful life?

Becoming the witness is the first step to having a joyful and peaceful life. As you witness old thought patterns and self-talk you can use your mindful living skills to redirect an old pattern. As these old patterns are reduced from interstate highways into dirt roads, you will be working on replacing those patterns with new mindful habits and slowly they will become the interstates in your brain.

Develop the clarity to both find your purpose and have the skills to effectively walk down your individual path.  To be moving toward your potential is a fulfilling endeavor.
